Al Haslam purchased the marina in August of 1961 after clearing the land, building the docks, overseeing construction of the buildings and serving as resident operator for several years. The lake was young and remote and there were only a few rustic weekend cabins. Most customers were daytime visitors and put in using the marina ramp or hoist.
